Frequently Asked Questions

What is Doggy Day Out?

Doggy Day Out is a unique volunteer opportunity that allows people who might not be able to have a pet (either own or foster) while doing something great for a rescue animal. More specifically, it allows volunteers to take a rescue dog on an outing and field trips in the community!

Common Doggy Day Out adventures can include a walk, a Sniffspot adventure, a hike, a trip to a beach or lake, or a sleepover in a home.

How do you become a DDO Volunteer?

Simply complete our volunteer questionnaire and we can match you with a pup. Next, schedule a brief orientation, digitally sign the volunteer agreement, and read and sign the DDO manual. From there, we can hook you up with the foster to schedule their outing!

What comes with the pup for the DDO adventure?

When you pick up your pup from the foster, you get a Adventure Kit!

Included in the kit:

  • Secure walking leash and collar/harness.

  • An Adopt Me vest or leash for the dog to wear while out on field

trips. It's a great way to advertise the dogs are looking for a home

    and a conversation starter.

  • A collapsible or portable water bowl.

  • Potty bags.

  • Dog treats

Are all of your adoptable dogs available for the DDO Program?

Short answer is no - We carefully select the dogs eligible for a DDO depending on their ability to adapt to new settings/environments and strangers and that are fully vaccinated. Generally, puppies that are not fully vaccinated are not eligible or pups that are on the shyer side. If you are a trainer that would like to donate time for the DDO program, please apply!

Can I post photos/videos from our outings?

Absolutely and please tag us!

Why is the DDO program beneficial?

Not only do you get an adventure buddy for the day, but you can provide some exercise and adventure duty relief from the foster! Many of our adult dogs can sit for longer periods of time, and this program allows for pups to get exercised, and it gives our fosters a break. In addition, it gives that pupper some additional exposure and photo-ops!

What if I experience an emergency during out outing?

You will be given phone numbers of both the foster and our directors while out, where you can call or text at any time!
